Mission!

This is just a blog about one girl's journey through fitness, health, love and discovering the world.

My overall mission is to be the healthiest me that I can be, as naturally as possible. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have spent the last few years weighing between 230-225 lbs and started a weight-loss journey in January. Currently, I weigh 210lbs.

This blog is not meant to be advice or guidance. Simply, it's me doing what I do best, learning. I have been an academic for so long and now I am applying the skills I learned through my education into health and fitness. I meant for this blog to inspire and motivate.

I am not a nutritionist, nor am I a personal trainer. I don't get paid for anything in this blog. It's all my own personal observations and experiences. I write about what I'm doing, what does and doesn't work for me. I can't guarantee you'll lose weight by following my example. Everything is depended on your own personal health and medical history.  You should consult a doctor before starting any weight loss regiment. Although, I do not see any of my behaviors as risky, anything you try/do on here, do at your own risk.

Anyone who has tried losing weight knows that it is not easy. It's a daily struggle with an addiction to food and a mental block of who you are.

I have a lifetime goal of trying to see the beauty in the world and appreciating all the opportunities presented before me.

I am a complete nerd. I live a free-willed, independent life and I'm really unsure of the whole 5 year plan right now.

I have a BA in International Relations from William Jewell College. I speak Spanish and am intermediate proficient in (Modern Standard) Arabic.

I have worked in a border town helping to translate and run a non-profit/women's shelter with the Maverick County Literacy Coalition.  This past Spring I worked as a substitute teacher in South Kansas City.

I have now moved to Cleveland, OH to work with City Year, helping off-track high school students get back on track for graduation. Any opinions, feelings or experiences I may have or that I express on this site are my own. They do not represent those of City Year, City Year Cleveland or Americorps.

I hope to research in the Middle East and to travel the world. I want to learn for the rest of my life. Ultimate goal is law school, but let's see how long I can put that off.

I know that I'm going to change the world. Just not quite sure how yet...
